Where to watch the Fleet Week air show with kids

Compare waterfront viewing options and check access, restrooms, transit and noise conditions for your household. The organizer lists the air show for October 9–11, 2026, from noon to 4 PM. Paid reserved seating and other paid experiences are separate; check current ticket and parking details before going.

The four rules of Fleet Week with small kids

1. Hearing protection. Jet noise near the show center is genuinely loud — bring kid-sized ear muffs, especially for babies and toddlers. 2. Arrive at least 2 hours early. The good grass and the parking both go well before the first flyover. 3. Muni or ferry over driving. Waterfront streets close or crawl; transit and ferries skip the worst of it. 4. Mind the nap collision. The afternoon flying block sits squarely on the 1–3 nap window — see the nap note below before you commit to the whole show.

The 2026 schedule

Fleet Week runs October 4–12, 2026. The air show is October 9–11, noon–4 PM. Check the organizer for current reserved-seating prices, entry conditions and schedule changes; ticket availability and parking are not confirmed here.

Air Show (Blue Angels)

Fri–Sun Oct 9–11 · noon–4 PM

The organizer places the show between the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz and lists noon–4 PM each day. The Blue Angels headline the show. Follow the official schedule for changes and individual performance times.

Parade of Ships

Fri Oct 9 · 11 AM–12 PM · free

Navy ships sail under the Golden Gate Bridge, led by an SFFD fireboat, visible anywhere from the bridge to the Bay Bridge. A great low-noise alternative for littles — done before lunch, no jets required.

Fleet Fest at Fisherman’s Wharf

Sat–Sun Oct 10–11 · 9 AM–5 PM · free

At the SkyStar Wheel and Pier 27 (2860 Taylor St) — note it moved to Fisherman’s Wharf for 2026; Pier 30/32 was the old location. Pairs well with watching the show from the Wharf.

Ship Tours — Piers 27 & 35

Oct 7–12 · NO tours Friday Oct 9 · free

Walk the decks of visiting ships: Wed 10/7 (Pier 27 10–1, Pier 35 10–4), Thu 10/8 10–4, Sat 10/10 10–4, Sun 10/11 10–4, Mon 10/12 9–12 (Pier 35 only). Adults need a government ID and bags are searched — pack light.

Where to stand: our family ranking

This ranking is our take, scored on family criteria — restrooms, shade, room to run, stroller access, meltdown exit route, noise level, and transit — not on view quality alone. Marina Green has the best view; it still ranks fourth for a reason.

Presidio Tunnel Tops

The family winner: a real playground, real restrooms and food trucks, with the show overhead. It sits farther from the show center, which is exactly the point — the jets are quieter here, and a kid who is done watching has somewhere to be a kid.

Crissy Field (east beach)

Sand to dig in while you wait, big sky views toward the show box, and flat stroller-friendly paths. Closer to the action than Tunnel Tops, so louder — and the beach exit crawls when everyone leaves at once.

Fort Mason (Great Meadow)

A grassy hill above the water with room to sprawl a blanket and let kids roll around. Good sightlines, less crush than Marina Green next door, and an easier walk-away exit when someone hits their limit.

Marina Green

Dead center of the show box — the best view on this list and the hardest place to be with a toddler: loudest jet noise, densest crowds, and the slowest way out. This is also where the paid seating is if you want a guaranteed spot.

Aquatic Park / Hyde Street Pier

A sheltered cove with bleacher seating and a small beach, close to Ghirardelli Square snacks and restrooms. Views angle across the bay rather than overhead — a gentler show for noise-sensitive kids.

Pier 39 / Fisherman’s Wharf

Pairs naturally with Fleet Fest at the Wharf on Sat–Sun — food, restrooms and distractions everywhere. The trade: you are watching from the edge of the show with tourist-district crowds.

Fort Point

Directly under the Golden Gate Bridge — dramatic, concrete, and loud when the jets sweep the span. Striking for older kids; there is little room to run and no soft place to land for littles.

Treasure Island

Across the bay from the action: a wider, calmer panorama with far thinner crowds. The jets are distant rather than overhead — a feature, not a bug, for a first Fleet Week with a small kid.

Sausalito waterfront

Watch from across the Golden Gate with a ferry ride as part of the day. Distant views, mellow crowds, and restaurants and restrooms a short walk away.

Tiburon

The farthest mellow option — a small-town waterfront, distant show views, and an easy lunch. For families who want the day out more than the flyover.

Coit Tower / Telegraph Hill

Elevated views over the whole waterfront — memorable, but limited space, steep approaches, and no run-around room. Better for kids old enough to stand and watch.

Hawk Hill (Marin Headlands)

The famous above-the-bridge vantage — and the most logistics-dependent spot on this list.

⚠️ The NPS 2026 advisory is not posted yet (typically ~Oct 1). In past years Conzelman Rd went ONE-WAY eastbound during air show weekend with the freed lane used for parking, and no shuttle. Check nps.gov/goga conditions the week of Sept 28 before planning on it.

The afternoon flying block collides head-on with the 1–3 nap window.
